[Well, Ozymandias can immediately rule this out as being a surprise friend of Fang's since he was not just addressed as "Ozy." So, he can only assume there is a question or request about to be made.]
The kids working at the factory were already brought to the council's attention, from what I gathered. I don't know how much you know about them, but the factory holder owned the orphanage too. That's how and where he got the children to work.
He's not the owner anymore. If it's still in the council's interest to make the orphanage self sustaining, I'll be the first to support it.
lordt, sorry. this month has been a disaster irl, but should be better/good now :|b
[Ozymandias almost wants to ask how exactly it is that the factory owner came to part with the children and his seemingly endless free labor. But while it's not that he'd find the answer intolerable, he also acknowledges that there are some things perhaps best left unknown for the sake of any and all plausible deniability.]
I believe it is in our interest, yes. [Even if there are Council members that lack the sense of charity associated with such an act, every action they take that seems investment in the city itself and their native citizens can win them favors down the line.] The concern that was brought forth to us was the matter of education. Does that remain a concern or have you something else you wish to bring forward to the Council?
I am happy to discuss what you feel might be necessary and what I believe may be feasible given Parliament's current temperament toward us. [There so often lies a discrepancy between what the Mirrorbound aim to achieve through their small amount of political power and what is actually feasible.] I imagine some of the needs previously shared may have changed slightly with the change in ownership.
[Such as the children's work responsibilities and their long, long hours.]
Beyond that, I intended to consult with Ursula Callisitis prior to proceeding with any motion related to this. She has experience as a teacher, but also has been able to successfully bring about education for the refugee children brought to the city a year ago.
Feel free, I'm the owner for now. They'll only have to worry about being children, for one.
[ he and so many mirrorbound have lost their childhood to the same fate or worse. just snatched, right out of their grasps without a say or opinion or even the power to uplift what was thrown. ]
I know her. It shouldn't be difficult if you mention me, though I have a feeling you won't need to.
Excellent. Then we may have better luck with convincing them. A previous barrier was the matter of decreasing the workforce available to the factories. I do not believe that Parliament, even with the best of intentions, would be keen to lose that much production regardless of the cost.
Regardless, let us begin with their education. We may yet be able to expand upon addressing their other needs with time if we are successful with this venture.
[It's not as though the aristocracy of Aefenglom have proven themselves to be particularly humanitarian, particularly if there is a chance for any slight inconvenience to them.]
I should hope not, but I shall all the same as I imagine she may have more specific questions to ask than myself to direct toward you.
[Even setting aside his very personal relationship to her, it would be very strange for her to turn down the opportunity to better the lives of the children in this city. Particularly when it is within her wheelhouse of academic education.]
