[There's a long cloth-wrapped object left on his table sometime in the night, maybe four or so feet long, with a casual note beneath it.]
Since you're so big on celebrating anniversaries, thought I'd mark a special one myself. Since you love collecting new names so much, here's another one.
[Under the cloth is an unstrung bow. Fang didn't craft it herself, but the gold and blue decoration is all hers. On each end of the bow, carved in with gold lacquer is a string of symbols.]
i'm sorry this is a novel, but i needed you to come on this journey with him
[He doesn't really need to free it from its cloth wrappings to know what's within–the shape is rather unique in that regard–but he is still eager to see it. So much so like a child entirely enamored with the idea of receiving a gift, Ramesses is initially distracted entirely by it and ends up paying very little attention to the note. (Even at a distance, Fang no doubt can sense his earnest delight at least vaguely through the Bond.) Taking it into his hands, Ramesses spends a few moments inspecting the bow's craftmanship and admiring the small details of decoration. Even with the symbols, he doesn't entirely recognize, he can tell a great deal of care went into making it.]
[It is then that he finally takes notice of the note, and then he begins to frown. First, it's out of confusion. He knows the note (and clearly the bow) come from Fang (which he does pause a moment to pay a little more attention to the bow as he would never anticipate Fang to go to such lengths on his behalf like that), but he cannot recall anything that would constitute as an anniversary for the two of them. The month in which they met has already long-since passed and they have a ways to go yet before there is anything remarkable to be said about the length of their Bond... So what is she referring to? He reads the note again for any hint. Then a third time. Well a second and a half time.]
[His hand holding the note lowers as he frowns at the opposite wall for a moment, now not because he is confused. Oh no, now he knows. Ramesses releases the note, letting it sit precariously on the edge of the table. This woman is terrible and she has sullied such a fine gift with this nonsense...!]
[(She could probably be all the way in Dorchacht and sense this.)]
[Ramesses pulls out the chair and sits, setting the bow in his lap. Frowning at it as though it is the most offensive thing he's ever laid eyes upon. But... He sighs and the furrow in his brow more or less disappears as he traces a finger over the foreign script. She is aggravating, but this is truly a fine gift. One that shows thought and consideration. In the privacy of his own home, he smiles to himself, a sharp exhale of quiet amusement over her choice of occasion that he would never admit to.]
[Setting the bow back upon the table, he mutters a few grievances to the sphinx cub as he sets about preparing his coffee. He gets his Watch later and sends a simple message.]
Tell me you did not ruin this bow by writing something crude on it, or I shall never forgive you for it.
[More about the apparent ruining of the weapon than any potential slight against him. If this isn't character development, we simply do not know what it is.]
[Ah, the ups and downs from Ramesses' side of the bond was a delight and reward in of itself. It gives Fang a good chuck as she dozes by a fire somewhere, not feeling like contending with the chill outside today.]
[The little buzz of the watch wakes her from her shallow sleep, and she takes her time stretching before responding.]
oh ease up. your delicate little stuffiness is spared.
it's just what your name would've looked like where i'm from. that's all. our names work a bit different from everyone else i'd met here.
[There's a moment where he is incredibly suspicious when she says that, but looking at the symbols, Ramesses deems it far too long to be that name. There's also far too much effort put into this for the excuse of calling him by that name when she's always freely done so before. So, suspicion gives way to curiosity, and Ramesses takes a genuine interest in wanting to understand the script painted so carefully on the bow.]
[At first, there is a smidge of guilt. It's quickly brushed aside as he's able to quickly rationalize his first assumptions (because 1] it's Fang and 2] she declared it a gift for the sake of that name; his conclusions are reasonable and he will not be told otherwise), but he does feel a little guilty for making such assumptions all the same. But once that is set aside... It's not so much that he thought Fang incapable of such thought and consideration. Try as she might to seem as though she is unaffected by the world around her, he knows that's only because she is so often deeply affected by it. At least the parts she holds close to herself. But he's surprised by it.]
[Or perhaps surprised by it is not really the best way to describe it. They have only been Bonded together for a short period of time, but they have been through a lot together in that time and before. He cannot very well claim surprise that she might consider him important or that she would have any consideration for him at all.]
[Maybe it is better to say that he is surprised by how much it touches him to receive this gift. The occasion is obnoxious and some of the grandiosity is to a degree likely a mild mockery of his own ostentatious presentations, but it would not be a gift from her if that were not the case. And really, it's not those parts that matter so much. Ramesses knows that Fang dismisses the importance of names and is largely content to not try and wrap her head around his differing perspective overly much, but this name encompasses a lot for him. And she had to have known that it would, reflecting the land that he loves, the divinity he is descended from, and the person that he is that not all come to know.]
[It's a name for her world, but it is a name from her.]
I like it. Thank you. I shall be certain it is put to good use.
[He doesn't specify if he's referring to the bow, the name, or both, but neither is he offering up grandiose words.]
The real journey is Fang collecting all his rare icons
[A mild, but satisfied, feeling answers him. Fang wasn't entirely sure whether it would land well, or he would take it as a mocking of his extensive titles.]
Sometime November, revenge of anniversary giftings
